Who said we can just wire the TV?? @@

Yeah.. it didn't work.. I was right... the frequency is different between computer monitor and the arcade TV, first, is the frequency, second, the resolutions... so.. after spending hours of wiring @@ , now, i'm back to the old issue again. I think I prefer to use an monitor... all I need to do is figure how to mount it... We finally took the arcade apart... I'm more like a do-it person when there are not risk to take things apart. And oh.. yeah.. 5 mins works saved our few hours research, nice!

And so far, we've got 6 games for sure. I hope I can find more in the future.

Pinball: excellent
NeverBall: simple control, nice
Blobwars: mouse key works perfectly!
Raid'em(raidem) - perfect game!! 2 players, easy keymap, turn "eye candy" option to min
SuperTux(supertux) nice LUX game
frozen-bubble nice cute game, 2 players
Game List for our wiki page

Key mapping plan is done and test with games. All we have to do is wire the controllers and test it. That's what I'm gonna do after this blog.

After all, I've gotta say thank you to Stephen Liang. He's been putting a lot of affort on this project, working so hard quietly.

BTW.. why dose NEC use LG/Philips screen?? That's weired..

Arcade Project Update

Here is few update on our arcade project...

Update
First, We may use open source, free Linx games instead of arcade roms with emulator. Since it's more suitable for the LUX source and more games variety, flexibility. And the best thing is license.

Second, instead of using any serial port, paralle port to connect controllers. We plan to use keyboard and solider controllers wires to a keyboard. Thank you John Selmys for donating a keyboard to us. ^^

Third, we may put a ear phone plug and volumn control for the sound system. This will reduce the distraction if we put our arcade in a PC lab.

Discussions:
PC monitor or TV?
Now we have not deside which one to use yet. I believe they both have their advantages and dis-advantages..

PC monitor:
= Adv: better resoulution, easier to configurate
= DisAdv: need hardware installation, less "arcade feel"
TV:
= Adv: more arcade feel
= DisAdv: need to buy hardware to support TV dual to different refreshing frequency

Nameing the Arcade Machine
Then it's the arcade name. There are 9 names proposed from our class and professors. Please go to our talk page to vote for the name. You can have maximum 5 vote for any name, but only one for each name.

Member Duty

Hi, every one.

There are few things I need to update you guys.

First, I've made a table for every one's duty in the project. Please fill in your name if you have not got a duty yet. Just to let you know that on "Hardware Installation and Config", we may need 2 people to work on it. Please let me know if you have any concern.

Arcade Project - Member Duty

Second, the fund for the arcade machine has been approved from Professor Murray Saul. And he will talk to Evan soon. We will pick up the machine in a week or two. Please let me know if you can help.

Third, we may have game license problem, since collecting coins may not a idea of "free and non-commercial". But I'm working on it, I'll try to ask around about the law stuffs....

Anyway, happy Indian new year!!! ^^

Good NEWZZZZ!!!

Remember someone sold a working arcade for $300?? I told him about the background and every thing and he is willing to lower the price to $200!!! of course, self-pickup!

Maybe we can arrange a time to see the machine's condition and pick it up also!!! I'm so excited!! It seems things are getting together tho. We've just got Fedora 9 installed in our PC. (Thank you, Mohak and Milton) Milton has successfully installed AdvancedMAME, and Patricia is gonna do the game searching! Next step is to make sure AdvancedMAME running in our Arcade PC perfectly.

And of course, we'll continue every thing after mid-term. ;-p
